A Listener's Guide to STEVE MARTIN'S UNREAL BLUEGRASS (SMUB):

1) Each installment begins a week long run through six affiliates, coast to coast, beginning on Sunday evenings. See Home page for days and times

2) Each installment focuses on an artist, featuring music from that artist, if the guest is a performer.

3) In the second hour of each installment, I chat with that guest

4) These discussions are timed only by completion of the topics.

5) At the end of each discussion a song from the performer will follow, no introduction.

6) There is a guest every week, save Christmas week.

7) Each conversation is stored and archived here on the Unreal Bluegrass web site thanks to close friends Jerry Schrepfer and Stephen Enzweiler. See (Archives Tab above for interviewees alphabetical by last name)

8) SMUB is a fully realized radio broadcast. It airs six times a week and then is gone into the ether (waiting for Jody Foster to catch the bounce back, presumably)

9) SMUB is not a podcast. If you miss one of the six weekly chances to lsiten to the full show, see #7 above

10) Each installment of SMUB opens with an original song, "Pick Peace" gifted by Thomm Jutzz and Milan Miller and each broadcast ends with an original instrumental "Pick Peace" gifted by Keith Arneson.

11) After the second hour of each show I try to stay off mic as much as possible. By then you have heard enough of my voice. Most segments are introduced by radio drops from a hundred or more artists from around the world. Following that voice will be that artist's song.

 12) A very special introduction "Listen to Steve Martin's Unreal Bluegrass. Like Bill Monroe said, 'Don't get above your raison d'etre' " is courtesy of one of the best jazz singers I know, Clotilde Rullaud. Her gorgeous voice is the only one to breathe life into this concept. When you hear that breath-taking voice from Paris, Bill Monroe music will follow.

13) David Byrd is a voice actor above all others. Two regular features are now voiced by David, gifted to SMUB as well. A marker for every hour is now David's voice, "You're Listening to Unreal Bluegrass." In the third hour of the show you will hear David voicing this regular feature, "Steve Martin's Unreal Bluegrass, we're just a little outside the flat top box." The voice you hear is not the thick moustache-wearing actor, Sam. Seriously, I do not know that voice. David luckily does.

14) "Steve Martin's Unreal Bluegrass is three hours of the best Bluegrass across the generations, combining conversation with the legends and those becoming." Every show's opening moments, those words.

15) SMUB has no mission statement. A guiding principle for me personally is "This could be fun."

16) "Pick Peace, It's an option." This theme is constant. Many people get it in many different ways. Means what you want it to. There is no negative interpretation, beyond that of your own. Some get it instantly(see#10 above)

17) The show name "Unreal Bluegrass" means whatever but is derived from a common declarative from Sonny Osborne ("That's Unreal", "Case Closed", "I have two words for you _____ ____") He found out last year and now claims 10%. Since no money comes in from the SMUB effort, I'll give him 20%.

18) Steve Martin is a frequent and very accessible guest of SMUB. I am not Him, He is not Me, we are all together. He isn't even the Walrus. He is a very pleasant and humble person and has been very helpful. I am the other one.

19) Enjoy every second even if you do not enjoy Unreal Bluegrass.

20) Friends and family are the precious gems of a golden life. My life sparkles in spite of whatever I do.
